Introduction
Founded in 1986, is recognized Antec as a pioneer in high-performance computer components and accessories for the gaming, PC upgrade and do-it-yourself markets, and its position as global leader and internationally supplier of quiet, efficient and innovative products. They recently sent us their 902 Gaming case and a 750W power supply for testing.
We start with the case and go to the PSU.
Case Packing
By clicking on a picture in this review will open a larger, more detailed picture and in some cases the only way to fine details place, as are the front mounted fan speed controllers.
Shipping in a strong box of the 902 weighs 13.5 kg with only 2kg for packaging account. Speaking of which, we were pleased the soft flexible foams and expanded polystyrene around not the case. This provides better protection, last longer (the case for later reuse) and not to break into small particles by taking the matter.
The Antec 902 unveiled
Since this a gaming case clear window is a must for just mud as a side mounted fan is essential for overclockers. The two side panels are held on with thumb screws and no tools needed to add or remove.
Search within the power connections for the 4 fans fitted are clearly visible and we could daisy chain them all to be from only one power connector while the cable stuck way inconspicuous. This saves the need to plug it into the motherboard and for this reason I have separate fan speed controls for each fan.
The front shows the enormous grill and 9 bays running the full height of the case. The air intake is huge potential and should form no bottlenecks or help related to irritating acoustic sounds. U can just the two small dials that control the speed of the front-mounted fans.
The back shows the position and the bottom mounted PSU standard shield (remember to use the one that comes with your motherboard if you can) The two holes for liquid cooling and a radiator are placed externally to the rear of the machine. The expansion slot covers are the reusable type later in the case of the drawing cards is required. There are no feet, and unlike our Chieftec Cooler Master cases, but the width is such that there is never any stability problems, especially the heavy food at the bottom.
The top view shows the function that generates the most overclockers - mean we have not space for an i-pod or the useful front-lines, but over the large 20cm fan only blows air out (even on a relatively fast flow). The two USB connectors for external SATA connector and headphone / microphone jacks are in the right position just useful but unfortunately are not marked or color coded. We can consider that at some point someone not familiar with building PCs will try to stick a USB connector in the E-SATA connector and / or vice versa, so even just, including a number of labels in a sticky sheet would have been useful.
The case comes with many accessories, including a 3.5 "converter for the front bays (for hard drives and SSDs) and many screws. The internal fan assembly is removable and given the positioning of the two front fans are never needed, except in the air blowing over a SLI / CrossFire setup up close. Cables sufficient length are planned for the front connections and are easily tucked away when installed (in our experience, PC makers tend to much more tidy when the case has a window - Even though they are not planning on a nice light show).
The width of the case was enough for us to use any type of Cooler available for both Intel and AMD platforms and everything in place as it was clear that the positioning of the side, rear and top fans were perfect in terms of the components for cooling should approach them.
Case Performance
The comparison with our other cases, a significant improvement in performance, even at low fan speeds, no doubt mainly to the huge fan and above the intake side. We suspect that the GPU temperature would be even better if we side with an optional internal fan and the fan as the air that would flow on the GPU slot.
PSU Packaging
The New Antec True Power 750W PSU (available in different glowing colors during operation) was also firmly packed, but in a more traditional "egg-box" type of cardboard. It is rated for SLI / CF use (we had no trouble with Antec PSU's though quad SLI selector tool recommends a different, more powerful, model).
PSU Construction and cabling
The cables take up more space than the PSU unit itself consists of two varieties. The essential of these are permanent and there are several other cables to fit the modular jacks (more on that later). This allows clutter to a minimum in a simple system, but still shows great potential in a fully PC loaded with multiple disks / SSD's, dual GPU's and other add-in cards.
Unlike some other power supplies the Antec True Power has an outlet schedule that takes the entire rear of the PSU and to assure that each component is a breeze of cool air with no effort to push through a smaller opening.
The sticker shows the important details of the voltage and power through the track and in our opinion it is crucial to the way power is distributed (the understanding and treatment of the lump 750W amount could cause problems if things are not carefully weighed in a heavy system. We recommend downloading and reading the comprehensive manual on the Antec's website website (we can not place a direct link as dynamic).
A close up of the modular jacks shows the intended uses for the various rails. It is a good idea to comply with this intended use, unless some formal training as an electrician was executed. The red connectors provide power for a SLI setup or very demanding graphics card HDD and the extra SATA connectors on it for systems with many disks. Cables are provided for all these applications.
Finally, the PWM fan seen here. This fan and all the others in the 902 cases were made by Antec and this fan site is specifically designed for high efficiency at low speeds. Simply reducing the tension would not work over a certain level PWM fans so this problem.
PSU Performance
The New Antec True Power 750W had no trouble with one of our tests with a confident blue glow and hardly a whisper. The fan was more noticeable in the case with the others off, but from a normal seated position could not have heard even at the highest position over the noise of the CPU and graphics card. Although not designed for Quad SLI, we were two 295s in SLI mode, Nvidia (4 GPUs in all) led by carefully ensuring each pair was drawing power of a different track and still have enough left for the Core i7 processor and other components.
Conclusion
The Midi Tower Case Antec 902 True Power and New 750W PSU, when combined, achieve new heights of performance in thermal dissipation in a PC case. Our last test rig uses a seasoned Chieftec Dragon case, but even with the full complement of fans were worrying warm during charging test. The inclusion of a particularly large side and top with wide front air intake fan (full length grill) means a huge amount of air is continuously shifted to the case at ambient temperature as close as we came in a non-aluminum enclosure. The importance of this for overclocking of the CPU and GPU can not be understated. A quick Wiki search on thermodynamics shows that the ability of the heatsink / fan to cool hot components such as a CPU is directly proportional to the difference between him and the case temperature. What this means is that if you lower your case temperature by 5 degrees then your CPU temperature drops with a similar amount. If you can lower your CPU temperature is you can either stick it to extend the life of components or clocks continue to benefit from the additional threshold provided by an effective case.
Except for the absence of labels on the front jacks on the case, we find no negative issues with both products, and we will use Antec cases and power as the basis for our next test rig and not hesitate in awarding both products our Gold Award.
