social security disability and Bipolar?
Hi - I was diagnosed Bipolar 3 years ago and had a recent 2 week stay in a psychiatric hospital and I am having a really hard time getting my life back in order. I cannot believe how my life seemed so "normal" and how after several months it spiraled out of control in my mind to my current state! Amazing how we can plant a happy face on for the world to see!
Anyway, has anyone with Bipolar had experience in applying for Social Security Disability and their success or failure with it? I have put in the inital application and I guess it can take time. One of my questions is, can I work at any part time jobs while waiting for the process of SSDI benefits to kick in? Please please let me know your experiences....
Thanks so much
Jenny
Well I applied for it due to being bipolar and was deemed disabled but could not get any money from social security because i did not pay into it. A doctor at the hospital told me that I should apply for disability because I had been to the hospital three times in one year and another patient told me that as well. So, if you are admitted at least 3 times in one year you will be more likely to get it the first try. Plus you have to be very detailed on your information you give on the forms. I don't know if you are allowed to be working or not. You could ask this in the disability section on here under society and culture to find that out. I know that you are allowed to work and make up to a certain amount of money if you get it. At least that is what I was told.
