Why an SSD?
An SSD has a certain number of advantages over a traditional hard drive, and it has a lot to do with the fact that an SSD has no moving share. While a HDD drive a motor to drive the magnetic platters and heads, a SSD storage on the spin would have in the treatment of flash memory chips. Because of this, solid state drives use less power, data can boot faster (up to 20%) and are generally more reliable than traditional hard disks.
The first netbooks sold in market use of solid state drives because they draw less power. Netbooks have thus long battery life. Netbooks that use flash drives also generally shock-proof. Hard Disk platters are very fragile and sensitive, even small movements of a jarring effect, the drive to completely unreadable. As a solid state drive stores all data in the memory chips, there are fewer moving parts to be damaged in a kind of impact.
Disadvantages Of SSD
Probably the only disadvantage of using netbooks SSD is that they make a low storage capacity. Although hard drives can store up to 200 GB of data, most netbooks SSD can only hold up to 64 GB of data.
Apart from the low storage, SSD-driven netbooks are netbooks expensive than using HDD. But all this is expected to change when the number of companies producing the solid state drives and the capacity for the production of flash memory chips is growing. Solid state drives cost less than half in 2007 than in 2006.
Some manufacturers such as netbook MSI seek the best of both SSD and HDD production given by the mini-laptops that have so-called hybrid storage capacities.
