What started as just a supplier has a show quickly a hot topic become the IT industry. It's just amazing how this relatively new market segment of the computer world are grown in the past years. The major players in the battle. Dell, HP, Lenovo netbook and very recently are now offering their products in the market.

Why has the low-cost netbook market segment was successful? The boom in this product is simply astounding. This is because earlier attempts to market products in this segment have failed. The previous Ultra Mobile Portable Computer (UMPC) never took. Tablet PC lasted a while before it finally found its niche medical industry. What is so special about the netbooks that people taking note of and the desire?

The main reason for its success is probably due to the price of these netbooks are offered. In a series of USD299 - USD699, netbooks are affordable for a large number of people of the world. Its low cost, many people are willing to spend to try us and for themselves. The price is also in the sweet spot for those looking at buying half or one third computer for themselves or their loved ones.

When ASUS Eee came out with their model, they were not trying for a new concept of computing. They were strictly an attempt to notebook PC which is very affordable for the masses. The Eee is still essentially a notebook computer. It is just a stripped down version of a notebook.

By not creating a new computing concept, people are more than ready to accept what ASUS has to offer. Notebooks are a very well accepted notion in the computer world. People should just get used to it concept that its a stripped down version of their current notebooks. A concept is not hard to swallow. You get what you paid. Cheaper less. A generally accepted concept.

People easy to accept, what they get for the price of these cheap netbooks are less powerful notebooks. Less CPU power, less space on the screen, less storage, etc. They however remain the same functionality of the full powered notebooks. They get the netbooks to use their normal work to do, albeit with some performance degradation and constraints.

Netbooks on the other hand, solves many problems of people with a sore back because of heavy notebooks every day. Weighing just over 1kg, the netbooks really lot of burden off the shoulders of thousands of current notebook users. These people will certainly appreciate this one particular advantage of a netbook. I know I would.
