How is my low-end system and how good is my next build?
OS: Windows XP Home SP3 Motherboard: ASUSTek Ambarine M Video Card: NVidia GeForce 6200SE TurboCache Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3400 + @ 2.19GHz Memory: 512MB DDR @ 199MHz Hard Drive: WD Caviar Black 7200 RPM 1Tb I call it "The Chiller" ... My next build will: OS: Same as it'll be the same HDD. Motherboard: What motherboard is well in the coming months with the AM3 socket. Video Card: Asus ATI Radeon 4870 1GB GDDR5. Processor: AMD Phenom @ 3GHz II 945 (Q2 '09 release) Memory: 4GB OCZ DDR3 @ 1600MHz Hard Drive: Same, maybe upgrade to an SSD when Windows 7 is out next year. I call it: "The Deadly".
Your current PC is really low end, not a relic either, but you must get the upgrade. Motherboard: Ambarine M is a useless motherboard Today, nearly all lack the skills to offer a motherboard recently, most noticeably overclocking so make sure to choose carefully when the AM3 motherboards are out, recommend I for one ASUS motherboards. Video Card: Well, that's really low. Indeed upgrade ASAP, you can even play Crysis on the lowest settings with that. ATi 4870 looks really good plus The GDDR5 memory has not NVidia card so go with that. Processor: I can already see why you chose the AMD Phenom II instead of going for Intel's Core i7, the price. Core i7 is ridiculous and so are valued for all motherboards. Phenom 945 II technology brings the best AMD has to offer as much choice for a while. Your single core AMD 64 is incredibly Anthlon low, so you need it. And for those who do not know, Phenom Quad-Core II is 945. Memory: huuugs upgrade. Going from 512mb DDR 400 up to 4GB DDR3 1600? That is like comparing of Betamax with BluRay players ... Yes, it is so great. Hard Drive: Caviar Black hard drive is one okay, but your mind is smart, SSD when they get next year right now are extremely overpriced. Good luck.
