SSD vs HDD - Laptop performance enhancer?
I have an HP Pavilion dv7 laptop and a little extra money. the 2 laptop hard drives, but only one was installed HP (320GB 5400RPM) I was thinking about put a 64GB SSD drive into the bay and the other drive as the startup disk. I found a Samsung 64GB SSD for £ 99.99. is it worth it? increase the performance (startup time etc.) worth? Or I could 320GB 7200RPM drive for another 70 pounds, I could placed in a RAID array with my original hard drive and if so, should I increase performance? it can even happen with different speeds RPM?
While SSDs offer a performance increase, the price per GB is just not worth it. While it will be less time for things to load, it just does not matter how fast the hard disk once the program is in memory. Of course, for some people, the increase of the read / write performance is worth the cost. If you are one of those people, then by all means, let nobody stop you making the purchase. A RAID 0 array would indeed boost read / write speeds at a price-per-GB cheaper than adding a solid state drive. You would basically two drives together as one, but there are a few Things to consider: In a RAID-0 array, as one of the two hard drives fail, you will lose all data on the array. This is because the data blocks are spread across each disk in Instead of storing the entire block on one-schijf. Hard drives have the same size, if possible. A RAID array will take on all disks are the same size as the His-kleinste. a laptop, you probably would be more than a software RAID. Windows can do this for RAID 0, but the performance increase is not as high as it would be if done by using a hardware RAID controller.
