If you're a fan of the small Sony laptop, you should look at the new range of Sony VAIO X series of notebooks. It weighs only 655 grams and measuring just 13.9mm from all angles. Runs on an Intel Atom chip TM normally in a netbook, the latest Intel Atom Z550 processor is the latest Windows OS 7 and a solid state drive. According to business users to focus on the go, the higher range of Sony VAIO is 3G enabled for quick online surfing.

So how was Sony able to make such thin and light netbook achieve? The VAIO X chassis is made of a magnesium alloy, and the lid is made of carbon fiber. This material may bend the screen, which can be a bit nerve-racking, but Sony said that it is designed to bend slightly. Also by using an Intel Atom Z-series processor that uses less power (and creates less heat) than the N-series Atom chips in most netbooks, the company was able to make incredibly slim netbook without a fan. The cover of our review unit was black, like the inside, with a bronze base that felt something rough. Sony offers the netbook with a Champagne Gold cover, but only for the model with a 128GB SSD (more on that later).

With a single-core Atom processor, the VAIO X series will never be a great performer. Even though the chip supports 2GHz Hyper Z550-Threading, this is not a substitute for the performance of the dual-core processors used in most laptops, VAIO and felt a bit slow at times. Our review unit was valued at only 2.5 under the Windows Experience Index is built into Windows, but this score was hampered by the low performance of the Intel GMA 500 graphics chipset in the function, while memory and hard drive scores were very respectable. However, as netbooks (also Atom-processors) the VAIO has a broad performance for productivity tasks like word processing, e-mail and giving presentations.

Performance is also influenced by the presence of several pre-installed applications, such as the 60-day trial versions of Norton and McAfee Online Backup Security Center, that every time your computer starts, regardless of whether you agree with the 60-day trial conditions or not.

I think that when you buy a PC like this finds most of its use in ultra-portable situations. An entrepreneur would like to have something like this for many situations - the airplane, office, meeting, lunch. A student can pull this off. The nice thing is that it is not an explosive price as the VAIO TT did. I think Sony will do well with the X series, for it is $ 1,300 - not $ 2,000 - 3,000 as the TT. This is a direct competitor to the Macbook Air in my eyes and wins in various segments. Do try to tell me Snow Leopard is better than Windows 7, either. I have used both and they are both excellent systems.

There are two USB ports on the left side of the chassis, plus a headphone output, while slots for Memory Stick and SD cards occupy the front. And that is your destiny. The rest of the design adds to the minimalist look. Apart from a wireless switch, the only are the two buttons for easy touch pad and the keyboard itself.
The VAIO touchpad X was a good size 2.1 x 1.6 cm and offered little resistance. However, as the keyboard may have been smidge bigger especially given the ability to recognize multitouch gestures like pinch and zoom. Two mouse buttons below are also small, but react.

The laptop 11.1 inch screen and 6.5 hours of battery life is respectable. Snap on an optional larger battery and your battery life jumps to 14 hours. This is of course partly due to the Windows OS 7 and solid state hard drive under the hood, which is optimized for battery life to improve significantly over the past laptops.
