What happened to my computer?
I have a desktop that uses IDE / Ultra ATA, it has the hard disk at this time. I have a netbook with a 1.8 ZIF SSD hard disk. I bought a IDE / ZIF adapter. The 1.8 ZIF drive windows has problems and should be formatted. I ask this in my desktop using the adapter as a slave. This is the strange problem I turn the computer on, the activity light stays lit, the fans run at full speed, but not boot into the BIOS or something, nothing on the monitor. Once I get the ZIF SSD, it boots right up into windows. Any ideas? It amazes me just how this is keeping my computer startup. My computer has an AMD Athlon X2 64 2GB ram 150Watt PSU The problem is that it will not even boot into bios with the 2nd drive installed. Remove the second drive and boot
IDE can you up to 2 drives on same cable. (I am assuming you have both drives on same cable.) There are 2 ways to select which disk access: Master / Slave is the most common method. The boot drive is the master and the slave drive is added. There are jumpers on the drives (and usually a graphic) to make the selection. This system allows using a 40-pin cable with all pins in all the conductors and connectors. All connections are identical. Chip Select (CS) is the other system. Set the drive jumper to CS, and a special 40-pin cable determines which drive is drive 0 disk 1. Your IDE / Serial adapter jumper and can be configured to match your existing cable / drive. This is probably A possible solution to the problem is to connect the IDE / Serial adapter to the other IDE cable, instead of your optical drive. This will allow you to boot and give you a better chance of success. Even the most modern BIOS settings to automatically configure new hardware. If it does not, you may need to setup mode when you boot, and change the setting for your new drive.
